May 16, Day 56, riding day 49, Gainesville, FL to Palatka, FL, 53 miles, 2,981.1 miles cuml, 30-40 miles to Atlantic Ocean

Today we left the college town of Gainesville, FL and headed toward the Atlantic. There were a couple of routes people chose, ranging from about 53 - 60 miles or so. We are staying tonight in the Quality Inn at Palatka, FL, on the shores of St. John River, with a manatee viewing dock at our feet. Leader Dave did some accounting last night and found some extra funds to avoid a last night of camping.

It is still very hot, another 89 degree day, with thunderstorms headed our way tonight and tomorrow afternoon. We are all ready for the dip in the ocean about 11 am tomorrow.

The video is of Becky, Janet, Sharon, Frank and Jerry on the Gainesville-Hawthorne bike trail.
