I am cycling across the country from San Diego to St. Augustine. This is my blog, please enjoy it. In conjunction with the ride, I am raising money for the Komen Breast Cancer Fund. Please consider donating by copying this link into your browser: Thanks!

April 18, Day 28, riding day 25, Hondo TX to Comfort TX, 56.5 miles, 1,536.7 miles cuml

We rode 56.5 miles today in sunny 70+ degree humid conditions with moderate 5-10 mph headwinds most of the way. We went mostly up big hills and down little hills, ending the day at about 1,600 ft from 900 ft at the start. At 28 miles most of the group stopped at a cowboy café called OST (old spanish trail) in Bandera, TX and had a great second breakfast/first lunch with Texas-sized pancakes. Pictures of some of the cowboys and cowgirls are available for your viewing pleasure. We were the only ones in spandex and without cowboy hats and got a lot of stares. Many of the pictures were taken by Alice.

The country has changed to the Texas Hill Country and we are passing tons of ranch spreads with huge fancy gates and driveways that lead as far as you can see. There is some real money in these ranches. Everything is very green with lots of wildflowers for those who stop and smell the roses. Most of the group is staying in a campground in Kerrville, about 21 miles west, via van shuttles, with the rest staying in a motel in Comfort, making logistics a bit complicated tonight and tomorrow morning.
