April 13, Day 23, riding day 20, Ft Davis TX to Marathon TX, 54.5 miles, 1186 miles cuml

Today we rode 54.5 miles into the wind making a short day quite long.
I had another flat (5 total), Luke had a flat, Becky's nylonbag sagged off her back rack and caught in her tire which blew up and shredded her. Dramatic pictures to come. She had to go to a bike shop and get a new tire. Dave got a good picture of a snake on the road.
Phil and I made it in 5 hours 20 minutes, getting in at 1:05. Others arrived all afternoon, and Becky made it in just before 6, after having another flat 2 miles from thecampground. The road surface was rough which added to the tire issues.

  1. Uh oh. Sounds like a less-than-lovely day. Is everyone OK? Is everyone earning gnarly points?

  2. Bruce, you guys have had multiple flats but so far no explanations. If it's thorns, a bike shop will sell you a very simple device that rides atop the tires, front and back, called a sticker-flicker, to kick off indigenous thorns like caltrops or puncture vine. And they have relatives, too, throughout the SW. Good luck from the Biking Viking.
