I am cycling across the country from San Diego to St. Augustine. This is my blog, please enjoy it. In conjunction with the ride, I am raising money for the Komen Breast Cancer Fund. Please consider donating by copying this link into your browser: Thanks!

April 20, Day 30, riding day 27, West of Wimberly TX to Austin TX, 47.1 miles, 1641.8 miles cuml

Today we had a sunny 47 mile ride ending at the international hostel in downtown Austin, TX. It is better suited for the young vagabond traveller than old guys used to hotel rooms, but you learn to put up with lot that you are not used to on a trip like this. I added some pictures of a few of the Longhorn Cattle we saw on the ride. They are impressively huge. The other picture is of some of the bikes Lance Armstrong has ridden, one in last year's TDF, located at his bike shop, Mellow Johnny's, in Austin. It was the best bike shop I've ever been in, and they spent 10 minutes adjusting my front derailleur which was a tad off, for free. Mello Johnny's is a play on words, or nickname for the yellow jersey, or Maillot Jaune in french, as in "Lance is wearing the mellow johnny again."

Others spent time in other bike shops getting tune-ups, tires, etc., Becky went swimming in a swimming hole, Phil went to a State Farm office to get discuss the latest in deductables vs premiums and to read the Boise obituaries to be sure the survivors get paid their claims in a timely fashion.

Our fearless, humble, respected and noble leader Dave gave us $40 in cash-ola to cover Tuesday dinner and 3 meals on Wednesday. We then went out to a Texas Roadhouse group dinner and after McDonalds breakfast Wednesday I'm left with $5 for lunch and dinner.

We have a day off Wednesday in Austin. Kim is coming to visit this afternoon and again in Navasota. Our next day off will be for a van trip to New Orleans in a little over a week. Maybe Becky will come back wearing plastic beads.
