Day 20, Riding day 18, April 10, Ft. Hancock TX to VanHorn TX, 74.7 miles, 1,041 cuml miles
The pictures are of: sunset over the Rio Grande last night, diesel fried chicken, Phil changing a flat 1 mile from the campground, and Becky and Frank arriving at the campground.
Today we had breakfast at 615 and Phil and I left at 7. We rode 74.7 miles, getting to Van Horn at about 1230pm. We are staying at the Van Horn KOA campground. The ride followed I-10, and we were on the shoulder for about half the time as there are no other roads in this remote area. We did cross into the Central Time Zone today, and we also passed 1,000 miles and are about 1/3 of the way across the country. We had 2 easy climbs up adding up to about 1,700 vertical feet, got chased by 2 mad dogs (total about 5 now), and Phil got his first flat 1 mile from the campground. I also had a flat last night during dinner -- ran over one of those goathead thorns again.
Tomorrow is a 90 miler with our last big mountains and the weather looks good.
